Measuring Pumpkins

We started our pumpkin measuring activities today.  We estimated the circumference of our pumpkins and then actually measured the circumference.  I was quite impressed with how well the students worked together.

"A" is For Apple

We had some very special visitors this afternoon.  A grant from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship entitled "A" is for Apple was awarded to several classrooms in the district.  Ours was lucky enough to be on of those classrooms.  Emily Wadle gave a presentation about apples.  Students learned hoe they grow and had an opportunity to taste a variety of apples.

Open House

I enjoyed meeting and visiting with you on Tuesday during Open House. It means so much to the boys and girls, than you for taking time out of your busy schedule to come to Open House.

As usual the Book Fair was a huge success.  I want to thank all of the children and parents who donated books to the first grade classroom.

CLIFFORD!!!!!

Our trip to Wellman today was a huge success.  While we were there we had a BIG RED visitor.  I found Clifford roaming the halls of Wellman Elementary.  He stayed and listened to some stories about himself and got his picture taken with our class.  We enjoyed some Clifford dog biscuits as a treat before coming home.

IMS Buddy Activity

Our IMS buddies came over today and did some pumpkin activities with us.  This is a great kickoff to  our big pumpkin unit.  They brought each one of us a little pumpkin which we painted with them and they also brought a huge class pumpkin which we signed.

After we painted our pumpkins we listened to many stories about how pumpkins and apples grow.

We  then all got to pick an apple from the basket to enjoy.  The apples came straight from Ms. Kilgard's mother's orchard and had been picked the night before.

Here we are back in the classroom with our painted pumpkins.
