A good time was had by all at the Washington Swimming Pool this afternoon. The weather was perfect and it was a great way to spend a Friday afternoon.

Spanish masks
In Spanish class today the children learned about the Carnival celebration. Masks are a huge part of this celebration, so they each made their own mask.

S'Mores
S'Mores were enjoyed by the class Friday afternoon during reading time. This was another reward for all of our hard reading work this year.

Environmental Education
Today was our Environmental Education Day at Washington Township. We started the day by cleaning up around the school grounds with all the of WT staff and students. Our responsibility was to weed and clean the plants and bushes by the Library entrance and to try and pull a lot of the weeds on the playground. The first graders worked VERY hard and pulled a lot of weeds. Check out our sack full of weeds in the fifth picture.
We had a delicious sack lunch which we were able to enjoy outside.
Meredith Caskey (WashingtonTownship parent) and Jodene from the MacBride Raptor Center brought out a couple of raptors and shared facts and information with us.
This is a sawit owl named Petra. We learned that this owl is one of the smallest birds of prey. It weighs only as much a a stick of butter and is about 6-8 inches tall.
Jodene shared a Swainson Hawk. This hawk weighs about 2.5 pounds. Both birds had to have wings amputated because of accidents.
We played Animals in the Forest, Hawk, Mice, People, and Predator and Prey.
We ended the day with trying to catch butterflies and moths and identifying them.
