February 11th Newsletter

Our Star of the Week this week was Student #6. We learned that Student #6 has an older and a younger sister and an older brother. Her favorite color is purple. Her favorite school subject is Spanish. When she is not in school she likes to play with her toys like Barbies.. Her favorite animals are horses. Her favorite TV show is Tom and Jerry . Her favorite foods are cottage cheese and applesauce. She has a rock collection at home. Student #6 brought in many pictures of herself and her family to let us get to know her a little bit better. She brought in her Spirograph to show us that she likes art. She also brought in her favorite book “The Three Friends Go To School” to show us that she likes to read. Marlene also celebrated her 7th birthday on Thursday, February 10th. We enjoyed getting to know Student #6 a little bit better.
Happy Birthday, Student #6!

Our Star of the Week next week will be Student #18. We will look forward to learning more about Student #18 and her family.

The first graders were very fortunate to have a guest speaker this week. Mrs. Caskey from the School of the Wild came and talked to us about nature adaptations. The first graders had a very interesting discussion about the adaptations that animals, plants, and even people make when it is very cold. Mrs. Caskey brought their pet salamander named Spot. The children were all quite excited to see Spot. He almost escaped, but Olivia was able to rescue him from falling off of the lid she was carrying him on. Mrs. Caskey will be back again next Thursday to do some more outdoor education.

The first graders were very excited to make their Valentine’s envelopes in anticipation of the Valentine’s Day party on Monday afternoon.

When your child brings their math homework home, there is always a note to the parents about what we did in math class that day. Math homework is a great time to sit down with your child, listen to what they did in math, and complete the paper together. The answers are always on the first Home Link for the chapter. Thank you.
